It's sad but true...
Last night marked the end of the Slammers winning streak which was at 12 games...I've got all kinda of questions surrounding the game and the team, however, I sincerely doubt they will be answered. Ever. I don't understand why you play one goalie(Black) Friday night, he gets a shutout and then you turn around and start the other goalie(Bent) the next night?! I guess that's my main question. And it's not even that I like Black more than Bent, I won't hide that. But why wouldn't you start Black, who just had the shutout? Maybe it was because they were both away games, but Bent has played more games. AND both goalies were traveling the same amount, I understand Black might have been tired but he had the win!
I know, I know, I'm not the coach(thank god for that) and I don't know what goes on with the team. I just wish that I knew why they played Bent instead of Black, I'm sure I won't ever get the answer. I also realize that Bent is probably our 'starter' and will play in the playoffs and I can't do anything about it.
Sometimes it's hard being just a fan.
The other thing is we lost to Amherst...the last two times we faced them was at home(during the streak) and we beat them both times(the first time 5-2 and the second time 5-3) so how do we lose to them 4-1 in their barn?! I knew they would have to lose eventually I'm just disappointed in how it happened. Don't get me wrong they haven't lost me as a fan, I don't think they ever could.
The 12 game winning streak brings me to another point, how good/bad is a league that has (at least) two teams that have 12 game winning streaks? (the Timberwolves also did it in the fall, and I'm really not sure if any one else did it.) It's not because either team is THAT great and it's not that the other teams are bad. Twelve wins in a row is a pretty big feat, no matter the league. I just think it's pretty crazy.
The boys have 4 games left, starting with an away game Friday night and then 3 home games. the first two games are going to be crucial as they are fighting for home ice advantage and can potentially get it(I think). As they have a home and home against the Timberwolves, who are just 2 point ahead of them(and currently seeded 2nd compared to our 3rd place). They will also face Summerside, who they have had an interesting time with this season. Starting with the bench brawl early in the season. I can't remember what the scores were like between these two teams, I just know it will be a good game. And their final game will be played on Feb. 28st against Restigouche, who have had a tough season(I think they have a lot of young guys). It should be a good couple of weeks! And the playoffs are just around the corner, yay! :D
