Woodstock Slammers and potential Slammers took to the ice Saturday morning at the Carleton Civic Centre. After last season’s heart break in the finals, the returning players are back and ready to learn from their mistakes.
“You have to play the whole season and practice hard, to be ready,” said John Chayka, who is back in Woodstock for another season. Chayka is looking forward to a tough camp. “I’m pretty excited to back. We have had a big off season recruiting,” he said.“We brought in some good character players, good guys. So we are all pretty happy.
”Fighting for a spot on the 2008-09 Slammers team is the Slammers 4th round draft pick, Scott Bragg.“I’ve heard a lot about them,” Bragg said about the Slammers, “it should be a lot of fun.”Bragg is looking forward to playing with the guys during the intersquad games. Also in Woodstock for the camp is Brad Jackson. Jackson was acquired this summer in a trade from the St. Catharines Falcons. Having only been here a few days Jackson says he “loves it.”“The guys are great, everyone’s treating me well,” Jackson said. “No complaints.”Jackson is also looking forward to playing East Coast style hockey. “I hear it’s a little different here, so I want to see how I fit in, experience it and go from there,” he said.
With training camp just started, Slammer hopefuls have few tough days ahead of them at the Carleton Civic Center.
