Game 5 in the books

I know 'my boys' don't read this, I'm actually not sure how many people read this....
At any rate, I'm suppose do be doing school work, but we are in the middle of the NHL playoffs and my boys are in the middle of the final series of the MJAHL championship. So here I am writing about hockey, oh well.
The Slammers went into game 5 against the Mariners, 2 games a piece. Knowing they would be coming home Thursday for game 6 and the potential to win the championship. I wasn't able to make it down to the game, so I stayed home and listened online. I can't seem to get into it as much as seeing them play live. Honestly I don't know why I have a problem, I use to listen to NHL games all the time.
So I'm listening online, yes I love the fact that I can actually listen now and not just follow the game sheet. But, yes there is a but, I don't like the fact that the announcer is kinda bad at calling the plays. And by kinda bad I mean it takes him a while to say what just happened. It doesn't bug me that he doesn't know all our players, i know it took me a while to realize who was who out there. I just wish they had a better play by play guy. Beggars can't be choosers, I know.
But then there was how the guys played, now because I can't get into the online audio, I miss most of the game, I couldn't tell you half the plays. I did however hear that the Mariners really picked on our guys lots of big hits, lots of "he is slow to get up"... I of all people know it's just a game but it's really hard for me to hear or even see my guys that played so hard in the regular season, (sure they struggled after Christmas but we got over that finished second in our division and are in the finals) end up in the finals struggling. They aren't really struggling, it just seems like they aren't fighting and getting everything done to win the games. I know the Mariners are a tough team, they lead the league and made some good deals before the trade deadline. We really can beat them and we have even showed that in the playoffs. I'm afraid though, see we have gone a loss, a win, a loss, a win, a loss so far in this series. So I'm thinking even if the guys get the big win at home on Thursday then we have to jump on the bus and head to Yarmouth, I know the Mariners are in the same situation, the only difference is they have home ice advantage and the fan support! I heard their fans tonight, they are intense.
My words of wisdom to the boys, whether they choose to listen to little old me or not, is this:

1- Sleep! Get lots of rest, with a game every other night and a six hour trip on the days they aren't playing,
rest is important to them.(as I am suppose to be sleeping, but writing this instead)
2- Play like this is the last game EVER! For some of them it might very well be their last Junior A game, because they will be to old to come back next season. This will also be the last time for all these guys to play together.(that really is a sad thought)
3- Have fun and not get hurt(killed was the original word i used, seemed a bit harsh though) because ultimately if they aren't having fun it's not worth it and we just don't want them to get hurt even if it is potentially the last game of the season, it would make for a long summer if they were recovering for most of it.

I realize, I am just a fan and my words mean next to nothing. But that's just it, I am a fan! I love this game and more importantly I love this team!! I would LOVE to see them win the championship this year! But honestly if they are happy to just sit back and have this season be over that's fine with me. However, they have had an awesome season, they had the highs and lows, but they have been through it together. They have two HUGE game ahead of them and I haven't lost faith yet. And I am sure Thunder Valley is gonna be pumping come Thursday night. If they really and I mean REALLY want it, they need to bring their A game and carry it straight through til Saturday night as they could potentially be heading to Yarmouth for game 7.
I'm still proud of everything this team has done, on the ice and for the community. As an 'outsider' I was welcomed as a fan of the team and the sport, it's gonna be a long 'hockey-less' summer. But I'm looking forward to the new guys next fall and the familiar faces that will be returning. I guess all i have left to say is Good Luck Boys!! The puck is in your end now, do what you will. See you Thursday at the rink!!

P.S. in case anyone was wondering the series has gone like this:
Game 1 - Yarmouth wins 6-2
Game 2 - Woodstock wins 3-1
Game 3 - Yarmouth wins 7-2
Game 4 - Woodstock wins 4-3
Game 5 - Yarmouth wins 4-0
